Luxury modern massage has come to Islington.

Following the success of Masaj’s Shoreditch and Marylebone studios, Carter Newlove Interiors was proud to complete the brand’s third London fit-out location at 116J Upper Street in Islington.

As a wellness brand redefining the massage experience, Masaj has built its brand around highly personalised bodywork, moving away from traditional spa treatments and one-size-fits-all routines.

Every Masaj studio is designed to provide a calm, welcoming space where everyone can enjoy a seriously good massage, delivered to the same exceptional standards across every location.

Working closely with the Masaj team, we delivered a high-quality commercial fit-out that brings their distinctive vision to life, while supporting their continued growth as one of London’s leading wellness brands.

Crafting a Space for Wellbeing

Our team delivered a thoughtfully designed studio space featuring eight spacious, soundproof treatment rooms, including a fully accessible treatment room and two larger treatment rooms positioned on the ground floor.

The space also includes a dedicated staff training room, a staff kitchen, a reception area, and customer and staff washrooms. Throughout the studio, integrated LED lighting, a sound system, and bespoke architectural details, including feature curved walls, ceilings, and doorways, enhance the look and flow of the space.

From the moment clients step inside, the studio offers a calm escape from the pace of Upper Street. Minimalist architecture and contemporary design are complemented by organic finishes and sensory-focused interiors to create an environment that promotes relaxation, comfort and wellbeing.

Located within Islington Square, a vibrant mixed-use destination for shopping, dining and leisure, the studio has been carefully designed to feel like a peaceful retreat, allowing clients to switch off and unwind despite its bustling central London location.

A refined palette of materials and finishes was incorporated throughout, including decorative paint finishes, ceramic and porcelain tiling, textured surfaces, marble-effect details, solid oak timber elements, and bespoke oak veneer joinery. These natural materials add warmth, depth, and character, complementing the studio’s calming atmosphere and contemporary aesthetic.
