Fitting Out Public Toilets, a Little Fancier Than You Might Expect

We partnered with 2theloo, founded in 2011 by Dutch entrepreneurs with a simple mission to provide clean, high-quality public toilet facilities.

Back in July 2025, Managing Director Gavin Caiger-Barker and Commercial Director Louis Moreline here at Carter Newlove Interiors travelled to the Netherlands to meet the client team and explore how the Covent Garden site could be rebuilt to reflect their new branding.

2theloo in Covent Garden has now doubled in size and encompasses its new high-end, premium brand identity.

Project Delivery for 2theloo

Delivered in two phases, our team began by transforming the women’s toilet facilities, completing them in time for reopening to the public while work continued on the men’s facilities.

As the building is listed, the project required careful planning and execution. Strict restrictions around fixing methods and alterations to the existing structure meant every stage of the fit-out had to be closely coordinated with the relevant approval authorities to ensure compliance.

Following the successful completion and reopening of the women’s facilities, we moved into the second phase of the project, refurbishing the men’s toilets.

Working closely with our client was essential to ensure the finished spaces reflected the brand’s existing locations overseas. To maintain complete consistency, all finish materials were sourced and supplied directly from the client in the Netherlands. This included specialist paint finishes, floor and ceiling tiles, wall panels, WC suites, sanitaryware, taps, urinals, and the bespoke toilet cubicles.

The refurbishment began with a full strip-out of the existing facilities. The original toilet cubicles, basins and urinals had become worn and dated, making the transformation long overdue. We removed and replaced all sanitaryware, installed a new electrical system, and made significant plumbing modifications to accommodate the new layouts and fixtures.

As part of the wider refurbishment, we also installed a new data network, fire alarm system and sprinkler system, before completing a full internal refurbishment and redecoration across both phases. The result is a modern, high-quality facility that meets the client’s international brand standards while respecting the constraints of a listed building.
